I’m Back from Greece!

July 2nd, 2008 -- by J*B*

Hey all you awesome pet-petters! I’m back from Greece and boy, is that place cool! My husband and I saw awe-inspiring ruins in Mycenae, ran a footrace in Nemea, ate authentic Greek salads in the busy city of Athens, and relaxed a bit on the beaches in Santorini.

While we were there, we noticed somthing all of these very different areas in Greece have in common–a large amount of stray dogs and cats. Little cats roamed the alleyways and packs of dogs laid out in the sun waiting for the heat to subside.

Now, my first reaction to the overwhelming number of homeless animals was sorrow. All of these poor critters without homes. But, as time went on, I noticed that all of these animals did, infact, have homes. Their homes were the streets and their communities kept them well fed and happy.

All of the animals I saw were were friendly and happy. The cats rubbed our ankles and mewed softly while the dogs greeted us with playful romps and upturned bellies. These were not the strays I sometimes see in the city. These were dogs and cats seemingly content to roam freely.

Anyway, thought I’d share that tought with you …

Dave (Hercules reborn) and I (Aphrodite, of course!) had oodles of fun, but it’s nice to be back in America–where toilet paper goes in the toilet not in the trash (per Santarini.)

xx

I agree. On a recent trip to Kassiopi, I noticed the same thing. I don’t know if it’s the better weather over in Greece or the way the strays are treated but whenever I have been they all seem a lot happier than my local strays.

I have traveled to the Carribean many times and have notice that many of the stray dogs there are also very friendly. It must be the beautiful weather!!

      Lucky-star is Shin Tzu.
Lucky-star’s brother and sister came with him to see Mrs. Dolito.
“My sister took care of me,” Lucky-star said.
      ……
“The reason my brother came with me today is that he doesn’t believe I can talk — the dog can talk,” Lucky-star said, getting loud.
“Well, today…I show you I can talk!!!” Lucky-star said to his brother. He is very prod of himself.

Tony is a 4-years old beagle. He’s very very cute and adorable.
“my mommy and daddy haven’t married yet, but they already lived together,” Tony told Mrs. Dolido.
“I think it’s going to take a while at least…before they get marry,” Tony added.
“You know, both their personalities are completely different. My daddy is very picky for everything and he nags a lot. My mommy is more easygoing. She’s very outgoing,” Tony talked about his daddy and mommy.

PauGi and Mini are French Bulldog.
Daddy and mommy came with PauGi and Mini to see Mrs. Dolito.
Both PauGi and Mini are French Bulldog. PauGi is male and Mini is female.
PauGi is the only one who talked through consultation and Mini…only focused on – playing.
      ……
“I didn’t do it, Mini did…” PauGi responded…sound so vulnerable and went on. “Have you ever notice all the furniture was looking good before mini came? Right after you brought Mini home, all the furniture were getting worse and worse. How could you judge me like this?”
