Splurge-Worthy Collars

June 28, 2006 at 8:24 am by DarlaKitt

As I’ve mentioned before, my little Trudy is not a very “girly” girl. She’s much more of a toughie. But no matter how tough or tomboyish a female pup may be, she’s bound to eventually fall in love with something that totally spells G-I-R-L.
Cyclops collar
And we’ve completely fallen for this gorgeous Cyclops Crystal Collar! Created by a French doggie design company, this splurge-worthy piece of beauty is only a sample of the fabulous Jophi French collection of luxury dog collars, harnesses and leads, available exclusively at Downtown Doggy.

The distinct style of the marquise-shaped pink crystals, framed with intricately etched silver, is just industrial enough to tickle the fancy of any edgy girl. And the door-knocker style of the lead hook is simply genius.

Oh, my Trudy is a little bruiser, but she’s still a pup, so maybe I can make a punk rock lady of her yet!

Animal Photo of the Month - June

June 27, 2006 at 3:37 pm by LaLa MaMa

J*B* usually takes care of the Pet Photo of the Month, but she is swamped by her new job, and has to take a break from us. (Wahh.) This month flew by, without me learning how to find great pet photos, like she did. (Psst.. comment with yours!) Isn’t that like me, though?

But I did find the cutest bunny ever! I love bunnies, but my cruel fate is that I’m allergic. Drat the world for that. They’re the cutest things. A past acquaintance and I even made up a nickname for them, “bunyes.” I don’t know why. It has even stuck despite that being the only good, if strange, thing to come out of that “relationship.”

Helicopter Bunny from Japan

The photo, via Cute Overload, comes from a Japanese online pet store, which makes me nervous. Rabbits Purebred & Outfitters? Shipping bunnies? We can’t be sure. I hope this baby has found a great home.

In other (fashion) news, it was recently the Fur Fashion Week, and I want you to look at this bunny and wonder how you could ever think about wearing a dead rabbit. (Oh, I’m always such a downer. But I look at this bunny and cry, anyway.)

Spread the bunny love, catch the bunny fever, feel the cuteness pain, and go crazy petting your screen. It’s OK.

These Big Fruit toys from the Big Dog Boutique just scream summertime fun-time. The durable plush toys feature a squeaker to grab your pup’s attention and are perfect for a good chase in the sunshine. Choose from three large seasonal fruits: the round, roly-poly orange, oblong textured pineapple, or the voluptuous teardrop-shaped strawberry.

The bright colors and kitschy style are so fun and fresh, you can stash them in a fruit bowl on a sunny windowsill or on the kitchen counter for a quirky twist on the traditional still-life décor.

Oh, best part? They’re currently on sale for only $2.11 each! So snatch ‘em up for some fruity fun.

Vote for Old Navy’s New Doggie Mascot!

June 26, 2006 at 8:00 am by DarlaKitt

Old Navy is hunting for a new canine mascot! And like all good reality-based competition, they want to know what the people want. From thousands of entries, their panel of judges painstakingly selected six adorable pups as “the finalists.”
Data Paco

Cooper, The Athlete, a Boxer/Yellow Lab.
Bean, The Live Wire, a Norfolk Terrier/Chihuahua.
Sandi, The Bandit, a shepherd/collie.
Josie, The Sweetheart, a collie mix.
And my two personal favorites:
Data, The Prankster, an Australian Cattle dog/Border collie mix, who can walk backwards on cue.
And Paco, The Free Spirit, a rescued Lab/Terrier, who does doggie yoga.

View their profiles and check out each doggie’s breed, age, hometown, favorite things, pet peeves and best tricks, then vote for your favorite. Voting is open until July 7th, and the new Old Navy Mascot winner will be announced around July 21st.

And while you’re there, make sure to check out Old Navy’s new collection of dog apparel, where you’ll find cool, casual shirts at very affordable prices.

Fine Feline Furniture

Atmosphere Pet Bed

Now this is a bed truly fit for a feline king or queen! The elegant spherical design of the Atmosphere Pet Bed contours to a kitty’s natural curled sleeping position. Its over-stuffed, extra-puffy pillow provides luxurious comfort and sleek style, with a silky striped cover that is machine washable. I absolutely adore the traditional dark chocolate stain and artful arrangement of the bamboo frame.

This is a piece of feline furniture that would beautifully accent any home décor. And imagine how regal your cat will look, catching his afternoon nap snuggled up in this finely crafted bed. It is royally indulgent!
