Survived a Coyote Close Call

March 14, 2006 at 10:47 am by LaLa MaMa

Charlotte was frightened by a coyote while playing in our backyard a few weeks ago. She is a naughty little devil and just “had” to go out late at night. She came crying inside, and was very scared. But that quickly wore off in the silly rascal. Now we take more precautions.

My mother saw it; larger than a fox. Clearly a coyote? Well then why wouldn’t Charlotte have been attacked? We can just be thankful she is fine, although we wish very much that she’d learn. But she’s a dog. We have to take care of her, completely.

This led to me taking some time off, also for being busy and having family illness problems. Life is tough.

I want to share with you tips on Coyotes and avoiding your pets getting attacked.

If you live near an area where coyotes frequent (or you know attacks occur by seeing the stories on the news):

Coyote

  1. Close garbage lids tightly.
  2. Do not have a manure pile with old food. NO food outside.
  3. Do not leave small pet outside unaccompanied.
  4. Ask your neighbors to do the same!
  5. On walks, your dog should always be on a leash.
  6. On walks, take a large stick or something with which to make a loud noise.
  7. Do not leave baby or small livestock outside alone.
  8. Keep your cats as indoor cats.
