Happy/Healthy New Year!

January 3, 2006 at 8:32 pm by DarlaKitt

Wow, it’s 2006! Another new year and I’m sure many of you joined me in making assorted drunken declarations of overly-ambitious resolutions as the clock struck midnight, slamming the door on 2005.

There’s nothing unusual about my resolutions this year, just the run-of-the-mill: eat better, exercise more, drink more water (and less boxed wine). You know, to take better care of myself in general. Then I thought about it and realized, “Hey, maybe I should resolve to take better care of my precious pets, too.”

Now, I already consider myself a darn good doggie and kitty mama, but there’s always more to learn. What better way to kick off a healthier new year, than by studying up on dog and cat healthcare? The American Animal Hospital Association runs an extremely informative website, called Healthy Pet .Com, that has a boat-load of great articles about all things “pets.”

The site has an online Pet Care Library, with areas dedicated to dog articles, cat articles, and articles about exotic pets. The articles are categorized by topic, making it super-easy to navigate and find exactly the information you’re looking for. Topics include: behavior, common health problems, illness and disease, preventive care, and human/animal bonding.

Healthy Pet .Com also has a terrific FAQ section (also divided into cat/dog/exotic areas), where you can find answers to all sorts of interesting questions, such as “How do I keep my dog from rolling in stinky things?” and “Why does my cat attack me?”

So, when it’s time to lay down the law on resolutions this year, don’t leave out your furry babies. Whip yourself into a fountain of pet care knowledge or brush up on some bonding skills to make 2006 a happier and healthier new year for you and your pets.
