Like most pet owners, I love cuddling up with my dog on a cold winter’s night. He’s so warm and soft and lovable, I can hardly stand it. We snuggle up in a quilt on the couch, me in my PJ’s, sipping a hot mug of sweet peppermint tea, and usually watch TV. But, too much TV isn’t great for anybody, and I sure don’t want to turn Murphy into a boob tube zombie. I wanted another option for quality cuddle time.

Leigh Anne Jasheway must have been thinking exactly this when she came up with the idea to write bedtime stories for pets, and I was thrilled to find her books on Amazon.com. Bedtime Stories for Dogs is a collection of popular fairy tales, revamped especially for doggie ears. The eight stories include Red Riding to the Dog Show, CinderDane, Snow White and the Seven Chihuahuas, and The Three Little Pugs, a splendid tale about 3 pugs named Herman, Ira and Stan, who are being teased in obedience school.

Ms. Jasheway’s other bedtime book is Bedtime Stories for Cats, an adorable collection of seven kitty-centric fairy tales sure to provide you and your finicky feline hours of evening entertainment. Puss and the Missing Boots, Kitty and the Beast, and Katpunzel, the story of a cat with a magic long tail, are just a few of the gems you’ll find inside this book.

Dogs and cats (and people) will enjoy listening to these cute, funny tales, and everyone involved is sure to love the special (TV-free!) quality cuddle time, too. Books make terrific gifts, and don’t our pets deserve their own fine literature?
