A Room of Her Own

If my little girl cat, Maggie, was a person, I believe she’d be a snippy, snotty, 14-year-old drama queen who hates her entire family and just wants everyone to leave her alone, for this is how she behaves most of the time. Of course, it doesn’t help matters that her two kitty-cat “big brothers” enjoy picking on her and trying to bully her into rough-housing with them. Then there’s the Murphy dog, who also attempts to engage Maggie in the occasional rough-and-tumble game, but that only freaks her out and sends her screeching up the stairs and into her fortress of solitude, hiding under the bed.
Obviously, Maggie craves her own space. Somewhere she can escape the antics of the two big boy cats and the spazz-y Murphy dog. Somewhere she can feel safe and cozy, and (like every woman) enjoy her “alone time.” I guess hiding upstairs under the bed works okay, but I hate to think of her hunkered down under there, isolated from the rest of the family, in the dark, and probably quite chilly, as the upstairs carpet leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to cushiness.
To quote Virginia Woolf, Miss Maggie needs “a room of her own.”

The houses have lift-off roofs that make for easy furnishing and cleaning. You could even use it to hide a litter box! However, I plan to fill Maggie’s new pad with a snuggly bed, and a couple of plush toys to keep her company.
My only challenge will be keeping the big boy cats from busting in and taking over the place. I guess I’ll just have to keep my eye on those two troublemakers…
